We are excited at the creation of this critical unit to Zabantu Associates and we believe this will go a long way to assisting local government in their service deliver programmes. The recent local government elections and the recent service delivery protests throughout the country have compelled us to seek ways in which we can make our contribution in this regard. This resulted from the realization that the central challenge that most municipalities face especially in small towns and rural areas is lack of adequate skilled personnel to help drive municipal programmes.
Our response to this challenge is the creation of SMS unit (Specialist Municipal Solutions) that will focus on working with municipalities across the country especially those that are inadequately resourced to assist them secure skilled people in critical areas so as to strengthen their delivery machinery. To this end, we have invested resources to make this unit effective and so we can make real and measurable contribution to municipalities. This unit will focus on working with municipalities in areas that have experienced the intense protests and in areas that are mostly located in rural areas and small towns.
The unit’s core objective is to identify specialist skills like engineers, financial accountants, human resources people, information technology professionals and other critical skills in the market and select those that are suitable to work with municipalities and are committed to contributing to service delivery and make a difference to our people.
In addition to this, this unit will also seek to establish specialist labour teams with artisans and other technical personnel that will assist municipalities in their short and long term contract work that is directly linked to their service delivery programmes. We will further seek to play critical role in assisting young people with job training and placements and hope through this unit that we will contribute to job creation and skilling of our young people.
This unit is well resourced and is led by Vuyo Nkwali and key team members who will focus on searching, selecting and work to secure suitable individuals to be placed to municipalities across the country. This unit will focus on short and long term as well as permanent staffing and labour broking needs.
